We are delighted to share our research report on leadership development, which looks at how employers and employees currently feel about learning and development (“L&D”) for leaders in their organisations and progression into leadership roles. We carried out this research as we see leadership development as being important in ensuring not only the personal growth, wellbeing and retention of the individual leaders themselves, but also more widely the retention of their team and the success of the organisation.
As part of our research, we surveyed over 1,000 employees and 500 HR decision makers in a YouGov survey. Fifteen L&D and HR professionals and senior leaders kindly shared their experiences and insights with us and we also obtained expert opinion from Sarah Hatton, Chief Learning Officer at The Learning and Performance Institute, to whom we are also grateful.
Our research covers:
- Why employers should provide L&D to leaders
- Our recommendations for what employers could do better when providing L&D opportunities
- What barriers organisations face to providing L&D to leaders and our top tips for how these barriers can be overcome
- Why employers should refresh L&D for leaders
- What improvements employers can make regarding career development into leadership roles
