Sam is an ecclesiastical property lawyer with experience in freehold acquisitions and disposals, sales and transfers of closed churches, as well as negotiation of commercial leases and licences subject to the Faculty jurisdiction.

He has worked with a wide range of parochial church councils, diocesan boards of finance, church school boards and a range of churches across various denominations and faith-based charities and trusts.

He previously worked within the charity property team at Russell-Cooke and Wiltshire based firm Wansbroughs.

Recent experience

  • Advising a PCC in connection with a licence under faculty granted to a nursery in part of a Church.
  • Acting for a PCC in completing a first registration at HM Land Registry of a cottage and churchyard.
  • Acting for a Diocesan Board for Schools in connection with two lettings over a recently closed school site which includes both private and publicly funded land and an application for consent from the Department for Education.
  • Acting for a Diocesan Board of Finance in connection with a licence to underlet at an investment property.
