Raj specialises in non-contentious construction and works alongside real estate, social housing, investment, banking, planning and development lawyers on various matters across a development project life cycle including contentious construction colleagues relating to dispute management.
Raj’s experience spans large scale construction and engineering projects to bespoke commercial and residential schemes. He regularly advises the full spectrum of private and public sector clients such as developers, local authorities, registered providers, institutional investors, contractors and subcontractors on contractual matters including the preparation and negotiation of standard form construction contracts (including JCT, NEC and IChemE), procurement, due diligence of a construction package, professional appointments and various other ancillary documents.
Recent experience
- Advising on the construction aspects of a £1.2 billion refurbishment / conversion of a grade 1 listed building. This included advice and reporting on procurement, building contract documentation, professional consultant appointments and delivery of the project.
- Advising registered providers on the construction aspects of regeneration projects including building safety related remedial works.
- Advising an F1 team on construction of a new wind tunnel, associated factory development and solar works, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating the principal construction documents and liaising with third party funding arrangements and other stakeholders.
- Advising a large public sector client in respect of a £100 million infrastructure project including in respect of the various construction documentation, project insurance arrangements and interface arrangements between the construction contracts and development agreements.
- Advising a developer on a £150 million motor museum, private members club and holiday homes (first of its kind in Europe) including drafting and negotiating all professional consultant appointments and ancillary third party rights, collateral warranties and novation agreements.
- Advising on the UK’s largest advanced hybrid solar and battery storage project delivering a 34.7MWp solar farm and 30MWh of battery storage. This included the preparation of EPC (based on FIDIC silver, 2017) and O&M contracts and ancillary documents.
- Advising a Greater London local authority on a £5 million footbridge with Balfour Beatty as the main contractor including the NEC4 PSC and ECC contract with optional z clauses. This included liaising with various stakeholders such as Network Rail and the GLA on third party agreements.
