David specialises in Corporate and Personal Insolvency with a focus on contentious work, acting predominantly for insolvency practitioners. He also acts for those on the receiving end of office-holder claims and advises a wide range of parties impacted by insolvency and financial difficulty, for example company boards, charity trustees, creditors, debtors, spouses of debtors, and landlords / tenants.

Recent experience

  • Acting for Trustees in Bankruptcy on a large bankruptcy where we are advising on the recovery of assets worth many millions of pounds, and where those assets are based in a large number of jurisdictions.
  • Acting for Joint Administrators of company which provided military supplies, which has involved advising on a dispute with the government of an African country regarding a contract the company entered into for the sale of military equipment.
  • Acting for Joint Liquidators of an investment company on a claim for the recovery of loans due from various high net worth individual investors valued at c.£20m. That dispute has involved a jurisdiction challenge (as some of the investors were based in Scotland), and involves complex contractual issues, and arguments about representations made to the individual investors at the time the investments were made.
  • Acting for a Trustee in Bankruptcy on a case where were are attempting to realise the bankrupt’s sole asset, a property, in which there is a long-running dispute as to its beneficial ownership.
