Congratulations to Andria Zafirako, teacher at Alperton Community School in Brent, who has become the first UK winner of the Global Teacher Prize, beating teachers nominated from more than 170 countries worldwide. The school in Brent is one of Winckworth Sherwood’s Education clients. Andria, who teaches art and textiles at the school, won the prestigious prize of £720,000 having been praised for working with disadvantaged pupils and their families as well as the wider local community.
The prize, launched in 2015 by education charity the Varkey Foundation, was created to give more status to the teaching profession, with an Oscars-style awards ceremony in Dubai.
