Speakers: Sarah Ingram,
London has long attracted wealthy international couples to live, work and divorce, and despite Brexit, Covid-19 and Russian sanctions, its reputation as a hub for international millionaires continued. However, over 10,800 millionaires exited the UK in 2024, largely due to the announcement of the end of the non-dom tax regime on 5 April 2025.
How will this impact the number and type of international divorces that family lawyers see in London in 2025 and beyond? Will cases such as Standish v Standish [2024] EWCA Civ 567 and Potanin v Potanina [2024] UKSC 3 and the proposed changes to the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 continue to attract international couples to the London family courts? Will these changes affect the cases seen in the courts outside London and the UK?
Winckworth Sherwood’s Family Team would be delighted if you could join them and their esteemed panel of speakers as they debate these questions further in the WS Family Law Debate.
The event will commence at 6.00pm with an update on the non-dom tax regime changes from Robert Mace, Head of the London Tax Group and International Practice Group (Saffery).
The debate, kindly chaired by a surprise judge (to be revealed) will follow. Debaters include Simon Webster KC (1HC), Charles Hale KC (4PB), Philip Marshall KC (1KBW) and Samantha Hillas KC (St John’s Building).
Following the panel debate, you are invited to join us for drinks.
