In new amendment to the Social Housing Regulation Bill, Awaab’s Law will compel social landlords to fix damp and mould in their properties within strict time limits. Housing Secretary Michael Gove announced in February that social housing landlords will have to investigate and fix damp and mould issues in their properties within strict new time limits, with 14 days for a landlord to investigate a problem and seven days to make repairs.
Matt Cowen, a senior associate in Social Housing at Winckworth Sherwood, has spoken to both Property Week and Inside Housing on the issue, and believes the sector is taking the damp and mould issue seriously. “My general sense from stakeholders is the sector is absolutely committed to making sure the damp and mould failures aren’t repeated.”
