Winckworth Sherwood has today announced the promotion of specialist ecclesiastical lawyer Darren Oliver to become a Partner in the firm.  The promotion takes effect from 6 April.

Darren is based in Winckworth Sherwood’s growing Oxford office where he acts for ecclesiastical, educational and charitable bodies on a wide variety of niche property, constitutional and disciplinary matters.

He is Registrar of the Diocese of Oxford and Deputy Registrar of the Diocese of Chichester advising bishops, clergy and other ecclesiastical bodies throughout Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex on matters ranging from burial and marriage law, and the use of church buildings and churchyards.  He has undertaken work for a number of dioceses in recent years, and stood in for the firm’s then Senior Partner in advising the Archbishop of Canterbury on both national and international issues

Commenting on Darren’s promotion, Roger Fitton, Managing Partner at Winckworth Sherwood said: “Winckworth Sherwood is the leading law firm in the UK for all matters ecclesiastical.  We have a strong team based in London and in Oxford and we are delighted to announce Darren’s promotion to partner.

“Darren is one of our home-grown partners.  He is enormously respected in ecclesiastical circles for the advice and insights he brings.”

Darren’s promotion follows two senior appointments into Winckworth Sherwood’s Oxford office, with partners Alison Talbot and Phillip Collins joining its Charity team in January and February this year from Penningtons Manches.
