About Jane

Jane is a Senior Associate in Winckworth Sherwood’s charities team, where she specialises in the administration of both straightforward and complex high value estates and trusts, for both national and local charity clients as well as for private individuals. Jane’s approach is to seek to resolve problem estates/trusts before they become contentious, whilst seeking a pragmatic and effective solution for her clients.

For Charities

  • Administering estates/trusts for charity executors, or those with charity beneficiaries;
  • Advising charities on poorly drafted wills, tracing assets (and beneficiaries) where there are limited estate papers or where an estate is only partly administered;
  • Preparing or troubleshooting estate or trust accounts;
  • Preparing inventory and account applications;
  • Advising on estates or trusts being administered by third parties, including those where fraud is suspected;
  • Providing legacy recovery services for charities who have not received their proper entitlement under a will;
  • Advising on the varied legal and tax issues relating to bequests made to charities, in order to resolve potential problems with estates or trusts;
  • Dealing with the correct taxation of an estate where the burden of tax has been misapplied;
  • Drafting cy-pres and Royal Sign Manual Directions

For individuals

  • Advising individuals and professionals on ton dealing with charitable gifts in Wills;
  • The administration of both straightforward and complex estates, including those of high net worth individuals;
  • Advising family members on partly administered or unadministered estates
  • Setting up and running trust funds (including investments and property assets);
  • Administering literary estates, as well as those involving heritage and digital assets

Recent Experience

  • Dealing with the day to day administration of a charitable permanent endowment trust, valued in excess of £1.8m;
  • Acting for a number of charities in relation to their substantial entitlements under two complex estates (one offshore) valued in excess of £11m;
  • Advising several national charities in relation to their respective interests under a large cross-border estate, comprising multiple assets in the UK, Germany and Spain;
  • Dealing with a complex landed estate valued in excess of £9m, including high value personal chattels, livestock, racehorses, investment property, and shares valued at over £1.5m, the majority of which were unmanaged.
  • Dealing with a high value estate with considerable cross-border assets, including multiple properties in the UK and Italy.
  • Winning the STEP President’s Prize for Qualified Practitioner Student of the Year (Accounting and Administration)
